An incredibly difficult watch. I started crying 20 minutes in and didn’t stop until it was over. My roommate even asked if I wanted to keep watching or put on something else. As difficult as it was to watch, it feels like something everyone should have to. It goes into the complexity of father-daughter relationships and the nuances of what happens to that relationship when the father is forced to be absent. The movie follows a handful of families, with daughters of varying ages, as they navigate the father’s incarceration. There are triumphs and defeats in every phase as the stories unfold, each evoking a once-in-a-blue-moon kind of feeling. Regardless of family dynamic or situation, the movie is truly a must-watch.
